Guidance for new clubs

Starting a new chorus

If you find yourself living too far away to join an existing LABBS chorus then there's the exciting possibility of setting up your own new chorus with our guidance and help.  We can offer advice on how to structure your Club, help you set up a Committee and draft a constitution and we can help you source music within copyright rules,

If you would like information on this option please contact the LABBS Membership Director: membership@labbs.org.uk

Joining LABBS as an existing chorus

Existing choruses are very welcome to join LABBS to share in the friendship and resources of our Association.

We have a team of LABBS Liaison Officers (LLOs) based around the country who can guide you through the membership process. Please contact the Membership Director who will put you in touch with your nearest LLO.

Choruses can join initially either as affiliate clubs for up to a year, or as a full member club.

Affiliate Club membership

As an affiliate club you can attend LABBS Council meetings and participate in education events. Affiliate clubs pay reduced membership subscriptions and receive most member benefits except the right to receive club grants or to compete at convention. The LLO will guide affiliate clubs in applying for full membership of LABBS ensuring that your singing meets the general criteria set down by the Association and that your club is structured appropriately.

Full Club membership

For choruses that are well established and familiar with barbershop singing applications can be made to join LABBS directly as a full member club. An LLO will visit a rehearsal and support your application with a report to the LABBS Board for approval. After full membership has been approved, and subscriptions paid, your club's representatives will be invited to the next Council meeting where you will be officially welcomed and presented with a certificate.

University Clubs

We have special arrangements for University Choruses reflecting the particular needs and circumstances of these groups. Please contact the Membership Director for further information.
